Marriage License

GETTING A MARRIAGE LICENSE

  • You can obtain your marriage license at any County Clerk's office in the State of Arkansas.


  • Both applicants must be present and together when the marriage license is applied for and issued by the County Clerk's office. 


  • A marriage license obtained in the County Clerk's office may be used anywhere in the State of Arkansas.


  • Marriage Licenses are issued Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.


  • The process of obtaining a marriage license will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes, based on the number of customers at the given time.


  • No appointment is necessary to obtain a marriage license.

FEE

  • The fee for a marriage license is $60.00 cash (no checks or credit cards). No refunds will be issued. 

LEGAL AGE TO MARRY

  • The couple must be 18 years of age. Under 18 requires consent of both sets of parents.   


Underage Applicant Information (17 years of age)

LEGAL DOCUMENTATION ON NAME AND DATE OF BIRTH

  • Both applicants 18 or older must present a valid government issued photo identification showing their correct name and date of birth; such as a driver's license, passport or military identification. 


  • They must also provide their Social Security number.


  • If a female's name has changed through a divorce and her photo identification does not reflect this change she will need a certified copy of her divorce decree, and the decree must state that her name has been restored to her maiden name. 

MARRIAGE LICENSE VALID FOR 60 DAYS

  • An Arkansas Marriage license is valid for sixty (60) days. You must get married prior to sixty-one (61) days. If the marriage license has not been used and is older than sixty (60) days, the marriage license is expired and you will be required to purchase a new marriage license.


  • Your marriage license MUST be signed and completed by a LICENSED marriage officiant whose credentials have been  registered in their local County Clerk's office in the State of Arkansas. 


  • All completed marriage licenses must be recorded within the same county in which they were purchased.  Completed marriage licenses may be recorded in person or by mail.  If mailing, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope to ensure your marriage license will be returned to the correct address. If in person, the marriage license will be recorded and returned to you before you leave. There is no additional fee to file your marriage license.  


  • Certified copies of the license (bond page) are available for five dollars ($5) per copy, non-certified copies are available for one dollar ($1) each. Request may be made in person, or by mailing a completed Marriage License Copy Request form to your County Clerk's office. Requests by mail must include the appropriate fee amount and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

COMMON QUESTIONS ASKED WHEN APPLYING FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE

  • Do we need a marriage license? Yes. 


  • Do we need an Arkansas marriage license? Yes.


  • Were do we get an Arkansas marriage license? An Arkansas marriage license can be acquired at any County Clerk's office in the state of Arkansas.


  • Is a blood test required?  No.


  • Is there a waiting period? There is a 5 business day waiting period for all underage (under 18 years of age) applicants for a marriage license. 


  • Is there a waiting period after a divorce is final? No.


  • Do you have to be a resident of the State of Arkansas? No.
